Here is our early season Illinois hunt report from our lodges in Pike County, Illinois. The 2014 season is off to a good start here at Hadley Creek Outfitters. We have certainly had some challenges with weather, but our hunters and guides have worked hard and have seen some great trophy whitetail bucks!
The early part of the season began with unseasonably hot weather in the 80s. This made for tough hunting conditions. This is one of those times when we are glad to have thousands of stand locations to choose from. Between our guides’ knowledge of the area and some great timbered areas to hunt during warm weather, many of our early season hunters were able to get shots at some of these big trophy whitetails. Despite the conditions, we put some nice bucks on the ground.
That warm weather was followed by a storm front that brought a few days of wet, rainy weather. Again, our hunters and guides were patient and found the silver linings. As you might expect, deer movement was fantastic during breaks in the rain and immediately following that storm front. As that system cleared out, the action picked up at a rapid pace with six hunters taking shots in a single evening.
Our youth hunt took place last weekend – we are excited to share photos from that hunt, so keep an eye on the blog page here for the full report. We will be posting updates throughout the season, so be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram as well.
